Novi Sad’s Science and Technology Park has unveiled its DEAL Lab – the Digital Enterprise – An Active Learning and Training Lab. This first-of-its-kind facility in the region is dedicated to exploring and implementing the latest in digital transformation technologies.

The lab provides an opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises to gain insights into automation processes – ranging from digitised product design and development to the digitalisation of manufacturing and logistical systems.

Mateo Colangeli, the Western Balkans Director for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), highlighted the significance of science and innovation, noting that they are among the top investment priorities for the EBRD.

“Our financial commitment of €80 million earlier this year for the development of science and technology parks in Niš, Čačak, and Kruševac attests to this. The project’s focus is bridging the gap between universities and the business world, a crucial step in rejuvenating these smaller Serbian cities and fostering their creativity,” said Colangeli.

Plamena Halačeva, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, commented on the EU’s ongoing partnership with Serbia in the realm of innovation. She pointed out that 132 companies had received assistance to expand, adopt new technologies, and foster innovation. “This laboratory will drive the development of innovative ideas and solutions, enhancing manufacturing processes and paving the way for novel products and services. The EU has always championed innovation in Serbia, having been the first to back funds for science and innovation, granting aid to pioneering companies, and supporting their collaboration with research and development institutions. The EU remains committed to stimulating Serbia’s economic growth,” Halačeva added.

Companies, researchers, and students can now develop and test their products and systems using cutting-edge digital technologies available in the newly launched lab. The establishment of the DEAL Lab is a direct response to the need to strengthen ties between modern scientific solutions, industry, and the economy to support the evolution and adoption of Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution. This will empower businesses and researchers to get acquainted with the latest trends in the digital transformation of manufacturing and logistical systems.
