Despite the European Union witnessing a dip in its wheat exporting game this season, Romania is flexing its agricultural muscles! From the start of July to mid-August, the EU has shipped out 3.72 million metric tonnes of wheat, a bit shy by 11% from last year’s 4.19 million during the same timeframe, according to stats unveiled by the European Commission.
But let’s sprinkle some intrigue onto this grainy narrative! When analysing the marketing year kicking off on 1st July, Romania emerges as the EU’s wheat export champion, boasting a whopping 1.04 million metric tonnes.
Poland isn’t far behind, bagging the second spot with 734,000 tonnes. Bulgaria and France are neck and neck with 685,000 tonnes and 682,000 tonnes, respectively, while Germany rounds out the top five with 414,000 tonnes.
As for the EU’s top wheat clientele this season? Morocco takes the cake (or should we say bread?) with 834,152 tonnes, followed by Algeria, South Korea, Nigeria, and South Africa.
However, on the flip side, the EU’s wheat importing game has seen softer days, clocking in at 684,000 tonnes, a bit less buoyant than last year.
